Storytelling Workshop

The art of storytelling is at the origin of theatre, and stories of any kind form a base for people to communicate with each other. The workshop will help students explore stories and storytelling through different mediums- using their bodies, speech, sound, and imagination.

It will help them become more versatile in how they express themselves; gaining focus, depth and variation. In the process, making their presence more captivating.

They will also gain confidence, learn to work with others, and become more spontaneous as well.

The Storytelling workshop runs over 10 sessions of 1.5 hours each, with a maximum of 20 participants. Each session will provide participants with an understanding of one or more of the following topics:

Storytelling

Understanding the Structure / Elements of a Story

The participants will draw from real life experiences and learn to break down their narrative into different components of a story with the purpose of understanding what goes into making it interesting. The initial narrative will be revisited several times during the workshop adding various skills learnt on the way.

Use of Body

Body language and being comfortable in one’s body is an essential element of storytelling. The participants will experience different exercises that will help them become more aware of their bodies and to be able to integrate their body movements with speech.

Speech Pattern

Each one of us often has a set speech pattern, becoming aware of this and trying to break out of it is important to take on distinct roles within a story, bring out changes in situations and moods, thus making one’s narrative more captivating.

Interpersonal

Learning how to work with others is always important. It also helps for the storytellers to understand their audience better and hence improvise on the spot to keep them engaged and attentive.

Presentation

The stories/ narratives will be presented numerous times at various stages of the workshop; each time applying the various skills learnt. Feedback will be given to make improvements.
